Talk About Town: Does White Lake Need a 'Downtown'?
If there is one thing White Lake lacks, it's a vibrant downtown area. Do you think the township should invest in the idea of a downtown White Lake?
When the White Lake Township Master Plan was approved last year, it included four proposals for the redevelopment of areas in White Lake that would give the township a centralized town square or downtown area. During a meeting with the planning commission, some members of the commission expressed their concerns with the idea stating they moved to White Lake because it didn't have a whole lot of business, and was a quiet, more rural area. While many enjoy White Lake's vast array of lakes and state park land, the township lacks a central downtown area that defines the township. Why the desire to change the rural feel of the township? It seems as though many choose to locate here from surrounding cities and then seek to change that which they found attractive. It is ALWAYS easier to spend other peoples' money, (taxpayers), than to poney up your own to make the changes.
