More Than A Dozen Cars Broken Into Over the Weekend

White Lake Township was hit by a rash of larceny from vehicles between Jan. 19 and Jan. 20.

One attached garage and more than a dozen cars were broken into sometime between Jan. 19 and Jan. 20 in the area of Funston and Gladys in White Lake. According to reports filed with the White Lake Police Department, a number of items were taken from unlocked vehicles including GPS units, cell phones, a MP3 player, loose change and sunglasses. In addition, a homeowner on the 9000 block of Ashdown left an attached garage open and a bike was reported stolen. The cars in the garage were also rummaged through, but only the bike was missing, according to the report. On the way to take the report, an officer found the bike along the road on Farnsworth. Man Arrested Following Home Invasion in White Lake

The following information was supplied by White Lake Township Police. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

A 25-year-old White Lake man was arrested Jan. 2 after a homeowner reported seeing him in their house, according to White Lake Township police. A report filed with the station said police were called to a home on the 200 block of Jaclyn Boulevard in White Lake after a homeowner reported a home invasion. The owner told police, the report states, that the 25-year-old entered the home not realizing the homeowner was there. The homeowner confronted the man and he fled from the home. According to the report, the homeowner recognized the man and told police where he lived down the street. When police arrived at the home they found the 25-year-old, the report states. The man was arrested and later arraigned on charges of first degree home …

White Lake Police: Woman Stops Car on M-59, Falls Asleep Behind the Wheel

A 47-year-old woman from Howell was issued a citation for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after White Lake Township police say she passed out while her car was stopped on M-59 near Ormond. According to the report, police arrived on the scene Jan. 1 at 2:20 a.m. and found the woman in the car, with the door locked, unconscious. Her foot was on the brake pedal, and the car was stopped in the curb lane on M-59 in White Lake. The report states that an officer woke the woman once and she took her foot off the brake causing the car to move. She slammed her foot back on the brake and went back to sleep, the report said. Man Arrested After Throwing Stolen Hitch Through Local Bar's Door

A 31-year-old was given a citation for malicious destruction of property after White Lake Township police say he broke the glass entry door at the White Lake Inn—causing more than $300 in damage. According to the report, the incident happened Jan. 6 after the man was thrown out of the bar for being heavily intoxicated. Witnesses told police the man took a hitch off of a random vehicle and threw it through the glass entryway to the bar. The report states the man then took off running, but was caught by two employees with the bar. They held him until police arrived. When police arrived, the man denied any wrongdoing. Alcohol Fueled Fight Leads to Arrests in White Lake

A 23-year-old White Lake resident and a 25-year-old White Lake resident were arrested Dec. 14 at 4:42 a.m. on Avonlea off Elizabeth Lake Road after complaints that the two were causing a disturbance. According to a report filed with the White Lake Police Department, police were called to the area earlier in the night, at 3:30 a.m., for a noise complaint and an officer drove the 23-year-old to his home on Mill Road in White Lake. Police were called the area again and pinpointed the yelling the a home on Avonlea. When they arrived, the report states, they found the 23-year-old and the 25-year-old hiding behind a tree and a car near the home. Police Put Down Deer After Accident; Items Taken from White Lake Home

Here is the latest in White Lake crime news.

White Lake Police were called to the 9000 block of Highland Road Dec. 10 at 8 a.m. after a car struck a deer in the roadway. According to the report, the person involved in the accident was not on the scene when police arrived (and did not file a police report), but drivers on the road called after seeing the deer in the middle of M-59. Officers stated in the report that the deer has severe injuries. The deer was shot and killed by an officer and removed from the roadway. Lt. Don Nankervis said a local resident was called and he came and took the deer to harvest it for meat. "We have a list at the front desk of people who will come out and take the deer when there is an accident like this," Nankervis said. "We don't like to let it the deer…

Witnesses Help Police Arrest Suspect Breaking Into Local Business

White Lake Police were called to Carlton Hobbies on Cooley Lake Road Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. after employees at a nearby business reported seeing a man break in to the store. According to the report, employees at a nearby business called police after seeing a man break the front window out at Carlton Hobbies and take two items from inside the store. The employees watched the man go around the back of the store and enter into a truck before leaving the area, the report states. When police arrived, the witnesses were able to give the officers very detailed descriptions of both the man and the truck. Later that night, an officer on duty in the area saw a truck matching the description driving in White Lake. The officer initiated a traffic stop and …

Two White Lake Homes Broken Into

Cash and electronics were reported missing from two homes in White Lake Township.

White Lake Police said there were at least two home invasions reported on Dec. 3 in White Lake. According to the report, the first home invasion occurred on the 10000 block of Oxbow Lake Shores sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 6:50 p.m. The report states that someone entered the home by breaking the rear sliding glass door. Approximately $1,700 in cash was taken from the home. The second incident occurred on Dec. 3 sometime between 8 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. on the 2000 block of Haley Road. The report states that someone entered this home by kicking in a rear door. More than $10,000 in electronics and jewelry were missing from the home. The missing items include a wedding ring, LCD television, surround sound system, iPad, computers and more. There…

Christmas Grinch Decapitates Lawn Decorations

White Lake Police said anyone with information on the malicious destruction of property can contact the department.

White Lake Police were called to a home on the 8000 block of Haymarket after a homeowner reported someone had destroyed the decorations on his lawn. According to the report, the man told police the decorations had been up for at least a week before they were destroyed on Dec. 2 during the midnight hour. "He said he went to bed, and when he woke up the next morning all four of the decorations on his lawn were destroyed" Lt. Adam Kline said. There are no suspects at this time, and the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information can call 248-698-4400.

Woman With Young Child Arrested for Retail Fraud in White Lake

The following information was supplied by White Lake Township Police. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

A 30-year-old woman from Grass Lake was arrested Nov. 28 on charges of retail fraud after police say she was caught taking items from Kohl's in White Lake. According to the report, the woman was at the store shopping with her child and a friend. Loss prevention officers told White Lake Police they saw the woman take a number of clothing items and jewelry, and conceal them in her cart. She then attempted to leave the store without paying for the concealed items, the report states. The report states the woman had more than $1,400 in unpaid items from the store. The woman, Mary Tompkins, was arraigned on one count of felony first degree retail fraud. Her bond was set at $2,500. The woman's child was released on the scene to the custody of the…
