White Lake Presbyterian Church Helps Keep the Door Open in Detroit

Enjoy the "Souper Bowl" Sunday at White Lake Presbyterian.

What do White Lake Presbyterian Church, the NFL Super Bowl, and the Open Door mission in Detroit have in common? Why, "soup," of course! February 3 is football's Super Bowl Sunday and "Souper Bowl Sunday" at the White Lake Church. On that day, the church fellowship hall will be transformed by the tantalizing aromas of more than 25 Crock Pots filled with homemade soups and the festive atmosphere created by football decorations. The purpose of the event - in addition to providing mouth-watering soups -is to support the Open Door mission that cares for the poor and homeless in Detroit. Weekend Countdown: Christmas Cantata at Milford Presbyterian Church

Our pick for today: 'God is With Us' Christmas Cantata Where: Milford Presbyterian Church, 238 N. Main St., Milford When: 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 and 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 Cost: Free-will offering Why go: The presentation this year is expected to be bigger than ever, with a choir of over 50 singers from several local churches and selections from classical music by Faure, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, and Billings with some of the world’s most beloved Christmas carols. White Lake Presbyterian Church is participating, and this year's cantata is dedicated to the memory of the late Rev. Deborah Kerr, who grew up in the Milford church and was pastor of the White Lake church.
