The Twin Lakes well house pump failed Saturday.
The White Lake Township Board of Trustees approved an engineering study to replace the original well in the Twin Lakes well house after if failed this past Saturday. The well, located behind Tim Hortons and Wendys at Fisk and Highland Roads, was drilled in 1958 and failed due to age, according to Paul Shearlock, White Lake Township Water Department Director. The failure caused flooding, with a loss of about 100,000 gallons of water at a rate of 400 gallons per minute. Shearlock said it took about an hour or two before responding firefighters were able to shut off the valve inside the well house to stop the leak and turn off the power inside the building. The sidewalk will provide a connection to the North Broadmoor neighborhood on Haymarket Street.
North Broadmoor neighborhood residents could soon get their wish of a brand new sidewalk along Union Lake Road, connecting Haymarket Street to the Dublin Senior Center and Vetter Park. White Lake Township Board Members unanimously approved a cost study Tuesday night for the construction of the sidewalk connection. The sidewalk connection will be approximately 220 feet long and 5 feet wide and would cost about $3,000 to $4,000, according to Planning Director Sean O'Neil. However, the township hopes to save money by soliciting bids for the sidewalk connection along with an additional sidewalk construction at the senior center planned for this spring. The White Lake Township board approved a loan of $740,000 from the general fund to the sewer debt fund in order to pay back bonds.
The White Lake Township Board of Trustees approved a loan of general fund dollars to the township's sewer debt fund in order to save the township from defaulting on bonds related to a decade old sewer project. The township will loan $740,000 to the sewer debt fund to pay off, in full, an outstanding bond from Oakland County and to make a payment, due in March, on another bond owed by the sewer project. Supervisor Greg Baroni said the money from the general fund was set aside last year for this purpose, and because it's budgeted, will not impact other township expenditures. In a special meeting Tuesday, the White Lake Township Board of Trustees approved zoning changes for two White Lake businesses.
If you've been wondering about those big signs in front of Dave & Amy's and McDonald's on M-59, wonder no more. The signs explained zoning changes the two restaurants were seeking from White Lake Township—changes that were approved by the White Lake Township Board of Trustees Tuesday. The changes will allow the restaurants to make changes to their buildings without having to jump through additional hoops, according to Supervisor Greg Baroni. The two parcels were non-conforming parcels, and zoned local business. Under the current ordinance, non-conforming parcels can't make modifications to structure or features. This session is being held to gain residents input into future park and recreation planning projects, and policy in the Township. The results of the Visioning session will be used to help the White Lake Township Parks and Recreation Committee update its 5-year Recreation Plan. Carol Kehoe, the program developer for the Dublin Community Senior Center in White Lake, will now be a full-time employee of the township.
The White Lake Township Board of Trustees approved a request to make Carol Kehoe's position at the Dublin Community Senior Center a full-time position at the regular board meeting Tuesday night. Kehoe's position as program developer for the center had previously been a part-time position. In a memo to the board, Dublin Community Senior Center Director Kathy Gordinear said Kehoe currently works 35 hours a week and does not received any paid time off for holiday. vacation or sick days.
