White Lake Tree Lighting draws large crown Wednesday night.

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus arrived in White Lake on Wednesday evening before a large crowd of excited boys and girls. Santa took the last part of his trip from the North Pole on a White Lake Township fire truck. Township Supervisor Greg Baroni presented Santa with the key to White Lake Township to the delight of the holiday crowd. A huge cheer was heard throughout the township when the large Christmas tree was lit. Kids of all ages presented their Christmas lists to Santa and Mrs. Claus. The White Lake Middle School Show choir performed along with the Rochester College Carolers. The Art of the Dance team of dancers dazzled the crowd with a series of holiday performances. The annual White Lake tree lighting event is next week.
Kick off the holiday season with the annual tree lighting event in White Lake Township at Village Lakes Shopping Center. The event starts at 6 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. in the area near The Root Restaurant & Bar, Marshalls, Waterfall Jewelers and JCPenney. Those who attend can expect a variety of activities and entertainment including: You can enter the White Lake Library's Gingerbread House contest now, or have your children color the poster available here as part of the holiday coloring contest. If you arrive, arrive early - the event usually attracts a large group and parking will fill up quickly.

Have your child, up to age 12, color this year's 2012 poster for a chance to win. Winners will be announced at the Dec. 5 White Lake Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Enter the White Lake Tree Lighting Ceremony now by printing out the image above and coloring it in. The colored posters must be dropped off by Dec. 4 at the White Lake Township Library. Children 12 and under can enter. Please include the child's name, age and a phone number on the entry. There will be 6 prize winners announced at the Dec. 5 Tree Lighting Ceremony. All submissions must be on standard 8 1/2 by 7-inch paper.

Want to help the community? Volunteer your time and help organize the annual White Lake Tree Lighting event Dec. 5.
Oakland County Commissioner Jim Runestad (R) said he and his fellow committee members in White Lake need help from the public to organize this year's White Lake Tree Lighting event. "It's a big event for the community," he said. "The number of residents who attend grows each year, and we had more than 2,000 people come last year. We need the public's help to keep the event going." Runestad said he needs people with graphic design skills, people to sell sponsorships to businesses, people to help set up the area in the days leading up to the event and people to help decorate the tree. "We want to make this the best event and make sure we have the crafts, reindeer, ice sculptures and entertainment that people expect," he said. The event is …
