Man, 23, Found Dead in White Lake

White Lake Police say an accidental overdose is likely the cause of death.

A 23-year-old White Lake man was found dead Oct. 20 at a home off Pontiac Lake Road. According to the report, a witness told police that the man had been seen the night before acting lethargic. The witness told police, the report states, that the man had come over to his home and ingested alcohol along with prescription and non-prescription medication. When the witness woke up in the morning, he found the man dead. The report states that there were no visible signs of bodily harm, and that the department is awaiting toxicology reports. Lt. Rabid Raccoon Shot, Killed by Police

The large raccoon was seen foaming from its mouth and nose on the porch of a home in White Lake.

White Lake Police responded to a home on Bonita Drive Oct, 22 after a homeowner reported having a large raccoon foaming from its mouth and nose on his back porch. When the officer arrived, according to a police report, he corralled the raccoon into a garbage can and shot it. The raccoon did not die. According to the report, the officer shot the raccoon again, in the head, then had to leave to respond to a retail fraud. The officer returned two hours later, and the raccoon was still in the garbage can - alive. How do you know this animal suffered at all? It was shot in the head to the point that the officer thought he killed it. Rabies is a viral disease that causes acute encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). My guess is the disease caused reflexive motor activity in the raccoon because it's brain continued to swell hours after it's death.   more ›

White Lake Man Discovers His Property Listed 'For Sale' on Ebay

A 48-year-old White Lake man discovered his family's Jackson County property listed for sale on Ebay on Oct. 18, according to White Lake Township Police. Police said someone had forged a quick-claim deed and listed it on the site. White Lake Township Police are investigating; however the case may be referred to another agency. A laptop was stolen from an unlocked car overnight sometime between Oct. 17 and Oct. 18 on the 3000 block of Pine Needle Drive, according to White Lake Township Police. Police were able to obtain the serial number of the laptop and entered it into the system as stolen. About $2,000 worth of hunting gear, jewelry and camera equipment was stolen from an unlocked car overnight between Oct. 17 and Oct. 18 on the 2000 …

Bike Taken from Salvation Army; Teen Caught Stealing from Kohl's

Officers from the White Lake Police Department were called to the Salvation Army in White Lake Oct. 14 after a worker there reported his mountain bike missing. According to the report, the worker told police he had left the bike chained to a telephone pole at the store on Oct. 13 because the weather had turned rainy and he didn't want to ride it home. He told police, the report states, that the bike was missing when he returned to the store the next morning. Lt. Adam Kline said the chain holding the burnt orange mountain bike had been cut. Men Marked by Blue Dye Arrested for Ski Lodge Burglary

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

White Lake Township Police responded Sep. 5 at 8:19 a.m. to a report of burglary and forced entry at the Chair Lift Operations Building of the Alpine Valley Ski Lodge, 6775 East Highland Road, according to a police report. The suspects stole boots, flashlights, helmets, snowboards and other ski supplies, the report said. They also stole a garbage can with which to transport the stolen items. At some point during the burglary, the blue dye used to marks the runs on the trails was spilled near the break-in, according to the report, and there were two sets of boot prints in the dye. Police also found tracks left by the stolen garbage can, which led to the White Lake View Motel, the report said. Police followed the tracks to a room and found a…

Items Taken from Cars in White Lake

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

A number of cars on Glasgow, Newport, Satellite and Sussex were broken into sometime between Aug. 5 and Aug. 6, according to White Lake Township police reports. Several items were taken from the vehicles including GPS units, iPods, wallets and a laptop computer. There are no suspects at this time, and the incidents remain under investigation. Water Softener Services on M-59 was broken into sometime between Aug. 3 and Aug. 4, according to township police reports. According to the report, someone got into the building through the back door and entered the office, and $250 was reported missing. Police have a suspect, and are continuing the investigation. Salvation Army Target of Breaking and Entering

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

White Lake Police were called to the Salvation Army on Highland Road in White Lake following a reported breaking and entering. According to the report, a window was broken out sometime between Aug. 1 and Aug. 2. The report states it appears someone entered the building through the broken window, kicked open the door to the store's office and rummaged through the office. Lt. Don Nankervis said some items were taken, but that police didn't want to release that information yet. Evidence was collected from the seen, but there are no named suspects at this time. Police Urge Residents to Lock Cars Following Larcenies

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

At least two larcenies from vehicles were reported in the last four days in White Lake according to police. The first larceny was from an unlocked vehicle parked at a home on the 8000 block of Fox Bay Drive in Fox Bay Subdivision. According to the report, the theft occurred sometime between 7 a.m. on May 1 and 4 p.m. on May 2. A DVD player was reported missing from the center console of a 2000 Yukon. There are no witnesses, and police do not have any suspects at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call 248-698-4400. Lt. Adam Kline said residents need to remember to lock their car doors and close their garages.  More than $1,000 in lawn equipment was taken from a utility trailer parked near the 400 block of Union Lake Road. …

An Estimated $10,000 in Air Conditioning Units Taken from Vacant Building

For the second time in two months, White Lake Police were called to a building following the report of a theft of a commercial air conditioning unit. Lt. Don Nankervis said the most recent incident occurred sometime between April 1 and April 30 at a vacant building on the 9000 block of Highland Road. According to the report, a total of six commercial air conditioning units were taken. Nankervis said he estimates the loss to be approximately $10,000. There are no suspects at this time, and the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 248-698-4400. 3 Men Arraigned After String of Thefts in White Lake

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

Three men from White Lake, Highland and Davisburg were arraigned Friday on 17 total charges stemming from a series of break-ins in White Lake. According to White Lake Police, the men were caught early Wednesday after a homeowner on Ridge Road chased the men down the street. Lt. Don Nankervis said the man went to his attached garage at 4 a.m. after his home's security alarm went off. Nankervis said when the man opened the door he observed at least two people inside his garage. He took after them, according to the report, and chased them down the street while his wife called 911.
