Officials Urge Caution on Oakland County Lake Ice After Recent Accidents

Ice remains dangerous despite recent freezing temperatures, according to Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office issued warnings this week regarding the danger of thin ice, despite freezing temperatures which have dipped into the teens recently. "The sheriff's office again wants to remind people that no ice in Oakland County can be considered safe, especially this early in the winter season," Undersheriff Mike McCabe wrote in a press release. The warning follows incidents in Oakland County Tuesday in which an ice fisherman needed to be rescued by the sheriff's department, owing to thin ice. Divers found the body Tuesday of a 63-year-old Rose Township man who went fishing Monday in Groveland Township, McCabe wrote.
