On the article Northville to Start Water Restrictions This Summer

ReplyIt's not the city of Detroit - Northville adds charges to the water bill on top of what Detroit charges for water. We dug a well several years ago - best investment *ever* if you want a sprinkler system for your landscape. I'm sure it's paid for itself many times over. No permits from the city are required, it's a county permit and in Wayne county it's easy to get. :-)

ReplyFunny. A wall caved in, and it completed way behind schedule - usually that means budget overruns which the taxpayers cover. I'm glad that is not the case. I agree with having security cameras. At least we'll nab graffiti artists.

ReplyI know this project was supposed to cost $800,000, but is there any information about how much it DID cost? And how much of the money was paid by the Northville City taxpayers? That's the information I want, because this walk through does absolutely nothing for the people that live here. If we want to get from the parking lot to Main, we walk through the Great Harvest and say hello to Dave Cole on our way past. And quite honestly, that tiny thin overhang on the Main Street side looks strange. Just MHO of course. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

ReplyI'm all for it, John, as long as I don't hear any more griping about our "lack of parking". Which is complete hooey.

ReplyWhat is wrong with this picture...we don't know anything about this man. Some people have "problems" along this line. He might have a LOT of money. But if he doesn't, why is it we don't look at ourselves and ask what is wrong with our priorities, that we let people go hungry while giving corporations tax breaks! People in this area all complain about paying taxes, but I have no problem with properly funding social programs. I have a BIG problem paying for corporate welfare and bombs.
That said, grocery stores have very slim margins...if they have people stealing food, they will go out of business. Someone needs to send this man to the Northville Civic Concern (or the Plymouth equivalent) - people donate food items to help people like this.

ReplyYeah, let's outsource everything. Let's cut more money from the school budget. Yeah, that works.

I couldn't make it to last night's meeting. I would have loved to have asked Bill Rustem, Governor Rick Snyder's director of strategy, who said "Michigan students aren't doing as well as they should", how high our Northville/Novi test scores need to be in order to be "doing well". It seems to me that our local public schools were doing great before Snyder decided he needed more money from schools so he could give businesses a 1.8 billion dollar tax cut. Now, class sizes are up, and I'm sure eventually, that will make itself known with lower test scores.
THIS is the story, Patch. The story is: Since the public schools "aren't doing well" the current administration has been busily throwing out the baby (Northville/Novi schools) with the bathwater (sadly, Detroit schools). Did Snyder and company come to Northville/Novi and study our wonderful schools and programs to determine what we were doing right? NO! His agenda is not to improve public education in Michigan. His agenda is to end public education (after all, Betsy DeVos says it's a "moral cesspool") as we know it, and turn it into a business with CEOs reaping their bonuses from the taxpayers of Michigan. That is what he is doing! Maybe some people have no problem with funding greedy CEO lifestyles but I do have a problem with it. Better to have that money go to better salaries for teachers so we can attract the best and brightest students into education.
